“Purifying the Heart: A Journey to Islam”

Abdallah Eric Rothman is a psychologist who met Islam after a long pursuit on the meaning of life. In this talk, Abdallah E. Rothman will tell us his journey to Islam, which took him to many different religions and spiritual experiences. He will also discuss the philosophy of Sufism and the knowledge of the soul in Islam.

Abdallah Rothman obtained his M.A. in Psychology from Antioch University and is a PhD candidate in Psychology at Kingston University London. Abdallah was an adjunct faculty member at George Washington University and he established Shifaa Integrative Counseling, a private practice offering Islamically integrated psychotherapy to the Muslim community in Washington DC. Abdallah’s clinical practice as well as his academic research focuses on approaching counseling from within an Islamic paradigm; and establishing an indigenous Islamic theoretical orientation to human psychology that is grounded in the knowledge of the soul from the Islamic tradition. He is the executive director of the International Association of Islamic Psychology and currently resides in the UAE.
